Why is planning necessary?

The aim of on-the-job learning is always to learn new things or deepen one’s knowledge. Well-planned learning produces strong competence. It is worth investing in the planning of on-the-job learning.

Vocational studies are planned in close collaboration with workplaces. When the opportunities, needs and schedules of the workplace are taken into account, the workplace will see a return on the time and tutoring invested in the on-the-job learning periods.

Planning is done in collaboration. It is the workplace tutor’s responsibility to plan tutoring from the point of view of the operations and processes of the workplace. The pedagogical skills of teachers, on the other hand, can be used in questions relating to the learning process and assessment.

Qualification requirements and planning

Education and training organised at the workplace is planned as part of the personal competence development plan, taking into account the qualification requirements:

  • vocational competence requirement
  • assessment criteria
  • methods of demonstrating competence

National qualification requirements: ePerusteet

The objectives and needs of the student guide the planning of the study path. It is mapped out with the teacher and compared with the objectives of the qualification.

When skills are acquired at the workplace, diverse work tasks and tutoring and the related arrangements need to be planned with the workplace. For each student the need for special support is also determined.
